2021 March Mammal Madness Tournament
What is March Mammal Madness (MMM)?
March Mammal Madness (MMM), an annual social media event based on the March Madness NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament. This educational project encourages viewers to fill out brackets predicting which teams would triumph in a hypothetical head-to-head showdown—with the “teams” in this version being specific mammals. The virtual fights, each set in a randomly chosen arena, unfold as Twitter threads posted by participating scientists—with each move backed up by very real research, planning and pedagogy. MMM and GATE
Third, fourth, and fifth grade GATE students will be participating in the MMM tournament this year. Students will research animals, create presentations, and discuss matchups. Then, they will make bracket predictions based on this research. We will watch video results each week during the month of March. Students do NOT need access to social media or Twitter to participate.
Playing as a Family
You can participate as a family, too! Live battles will be described on Twitter. Follow @2021MMMletsgo to see all the updates.
